Horn, W. and S. Schenkling
Index Litteraturae Entomologicae Serie I: de Welt-Literatur über die gesamte Entomologie bis inklusive 1863. [Interleaved set with additions].
Berlin, Walter Horn, 1928-1929. 8vo (23.2 x 15.8 cm). Four parts in four. 1426 pp. [interleaved with blanks]; four plates with portraits. Uniform contemporary half cloth over marbled boards. Spines with gilt bands and title. Speckled edges.
The best index of entomological literature available, surpassing Hagen's Bibliotheca Entomologica in scope and detail. This is the complete original series, covering the years up to 1864. Neatly bound, and entirely interleaved. A former owner made good use of the interleaved blanks, adding many supplemental records. Provenance: a small stamp of Erich Schmidt in the top margin of a few preliminary leaves. Erich Walther Schmidt (1890-1969) was a German entomologist specialized in Odonata. Very light shelf-wear; two leaves in the first volume detached, otherwise a very good, clean, attractive set. Not in Nissen (despite the plates with entomologist's portraits).
