The first comprehensive work on French non-marine molluscs, written by the French malacologist Jacques Philippe Raymond Draparnaud (1772-1804). It contains excellent illustrations, and many species were described here for the first time. The original work was published posthumously. Much later (1831), it was updated and expanded by another French malacologist, Louis André Gaspard Michaud (1795-1880). Michaud's supplement is not often found combined with Draparnaud's work. The index, by Michaud, covers both works. Plate numbering is continuous, but page numbering of Michaud's part starts anew. Provenance: stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) in the top margin of the front free endpaper and first half-title. Some, mostly marginal light spotting but otherwise very good. Nissen ZBI, 1152.
