St. Petersburg, NAUKA, 1997. Large 8vo. 436 pp.; 245 text illustrations, 44 plates. Original black leatherette with gilt title on the front board and spine.

A seldom-seen major monograph, discussing 37 species and subspecies. The text illustrations are excellent and so are the SEM photos forming the plates. Written by the Russian entomologist Natalia Aleksandrovna Filippova (1930–2018). She "...was a world authority on the taxonomy of mites and especially ticks. Her monographs on the identification, morphology, development, distribution and behaviour of the family Argasidae (soft ticks) and the sub-families of Ixodinae and Amblyomminae (hard ticks) are standard works on these important vectors of disease." (Wikipedia). This is number 145 in the series Fauna SSSR (later: Fauna of Russia). In Russian, with an 8 pp. summary in English. A mint copy.
