Jena, Gustav Fisher, 1908. Four parts in four. Large 4to (34.3 x 25.5 cm). x, 706 pp. [x, 1-336, 337-706]; 87 mostly chromolithographed plates; two partly coloured maps; 225 text figures. Uniform original "Gustav Fischer orange" wrappers, or black quarter cloth over orange boards, as issued.

This is a very rare, complete set in the original bindings, consisting of the complete "Allgemeiner Teil" [general part], and Spezieller Teil [special part] of the Radiolaria-section, of the results of the first German scientific voyage around the world. The author is the German zoologist Ferdinand Carl Valentin Haecker [or Häcker] (1864-1927) and this may be regarded as his magnum opus. The illustrations are very beautifully done and reminiscent of those of Ernst Haeckel. The full titles are as follows: "Spezieller Teil Erste Lieferung. Aulacanthidae - Concharidae" [text, and plates in two volumes], AND "Spezieller Teil. Die Tripyleen, Collodarien und Mikroradiolarien der Tiefsee" (title; but including the continuation of the Aulacanthidae - Concharidae) AND "Allgemeiner Teil. Form und Formbildung bei den Radiolarien". The first text part includes the plates numbered 63-85. This part seems to be rare in a complete state. In fact, the front wrapper has a stamped text in the top margin, stating "Ohne Tafelerklarung 63-78", but all explanatory leaves are present. Some spines ends slightly abraded, one back wrapper with a small piece of paper missing and some creasing to wrappers. Two parts bumped in upper inner corner, otherwise, a very good, complete, clean set. Cat. BM(NH) Supplement, p. 423; Nissen ZBI 1789, 4625.
