Pasquet, O.
Coléoptères de la Manche.
Cherbourg, Société Nationale des Sciences Naturelles et Mathématiques de Cherbourg, 1929. Large 8vo (24.0 x 15.5 cm). Title page, 332 pp., interleaved; large, folded map of the Cotentin Peninsula (Normandy) region. Dark green pebbled morocco over marbled boards. Spine with gilt ornamental bands, floral vignettes and title. Marbled endpapers. [AND] Six additional items, of which three supplemental to this work.
Written by the French entomologist and Roman Catholic canon, Octave Pasquet (1869-1961). It deals with the beetles occurring in north-western France, in an area bordering the English Channel. Offprint, with new title and pagination, from the society's Mémoires, Volume 34, and apparently the author's copy, viz., an interleaved copy, with numerous handwritten annotations in ink (and some in pencil) - perhaps in preparation of an updated, corrected and expanded new edition. The handwritten additions include new localities, names of collectors, literature references, etc. Many annotations, in particular those referring to field observations, are dated, from 1924 up to 1943, the majority in the 1930s. Loosely inserted are four mimeographed papers: 1. A list of new localities (3 pp.); 2. A list of corrigenda (1 p.); 3. A list headed Coléoptères de la Manche ( 2ème liste supplémentare) (6 pp., hand-dated 1950). Also included is 4. A leaf with keys, headed Tableau desCicindela de France pour la determination des especes seulement par le docteur H. Pater, and 5. Two handwritten leaves with a list of beetles received from Ciudad Réal, Spain, in 1918, sent by José Maria de la Fuente (i.e., the Spanish entomologist and fellow clergyman José María Hugo de la Fuente Morales [1855-1932]), and 6. An offprint of a paper by F. Guignot, Sur la capture en France de l'Haliplus lineolatus Mann. [Col. Haliplidae], a species and paper commented upon (handwritten note) by Pasquet. Slight wear to boards and edges; otherwise a very good, clean, unique copy.
