Abendanon, E. C.
Midden-Celebes Expeditie. Geologische en geographische doorkruisingen van Midden-Celebes (1909-1910).
Leiden, E. J. Brill, 1915-1918. 4to (26.9 x 19.4 cm). 1986 pp.; 228 plates and numerous text illustrations. Fine, uniform original decorated cloth bindings.
Deals with the Indonesian Island of Sulawesi (formerly Celebes) and remains on many subjects a standard work (e.g., history of the cartography; geology and palaeontology, ethnography, etc.). Written by the Dutch geologist and mining engineer Eduard Cornelius Abendanon (1878-1962). This set probably from Abendanon himself, or a co-worker, as the first volume contains many corrections in light pencil; including corrections of data that would appear to be unknown to outside sources. A set of the complete text. The separate atlas is not included. Front board of volume one, with light wear, otherwise an unusually fine, unmarked set. Not in Cat. BM(NH).
