Leiden, E. J. Brill, 1933-1959. Six volumes in 16. 4to (32.0 x 23.2 cm). Text and numerous plates, many coloured folded maps and charts. Original printed wrappers and contemporary printed cloth.

Deals mainly with hydrological, hydrographical and geological characters of Indonesian waters. The Snellius Expedition was the second large scientific expedition to the former Dutch East Indies. Its leader was a marine officer and meteorologist, Petrus Martinus van Riel (1878-1957). Present are the following volumes: I(1-4), II(1-6, 8); III; IV; V(1-2); and VI. Apparently only parts II(7) and V(3) not included. Most parts are in a nice, uniform cloth binding from the private library of a Dutch geologist. The remainder is in original wrappers, except part II.5(3) which is in plain wrappers, and is the only one with some slight wear to the edges. Several of the parts in wrappers with stamps on wrappers or titles, otherwise clean. In all a very good set. Rare.
