Genova, R. Istituto Sordi-Muti [for the author], 1874. Large 8vo (24.8 x 16.6 cm). 126 pp.; four lithographed plates [numbered IV-VII], of which one finely hand-coloured. Reddish buckram with gilt title on the spine. Original printed wrappers bound in.

A seldom-seen, well-illustrated work on the non-marine molluscs of Kalimantan, including many that are named, described, and illustrated here for the first time. Currently, the fauna and flora of this largest of the Indonesian islands is much under ecological pressure, and many species are endangered if not extinct. Written and privately published by the Italian malacologist Arturo Issel (1842-1922). Provenance: From the library of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020), with his stamp on the front wrapper top margin. Otherwise, a very good, clean, well-bound copy.
