Paris, Émile Deyrolle, 1879-1881. Three volumes in one. Folio (31.5 x 23.8 cm). 532 pp. Numerous illustrations. Contemporary quarter pebbled cloth over marbled boards. Spine with gilt bands and title.

The rare first volumes of a chiefly entomological and malacological bimonthly, being the successor to another seldom-seen periodical, Les Petites Nouvelles Entomologiques. Indeed, entomology, in addition to malacology, is well-represented (for example, C. F. Ancey and Albert Granger are main contributors). Other papers deal with herpetology, botany, etc. Pagination and issue-numbering is consecutive throughout. The journal contains descriptions of many new species and is a good source for obituaries and publication records. Issue 66 is an index, and is treated as a single volume, though spread over three years. Provenance; the name Dr. Kierlin, or Hierlin written in an old hand on the front free endpaper recto, and a simple, old typescript label, "Eigentum U. Koch Duino-Triest" mounted on the front pastedown. Also, a small bookbinder's label, "Natura" Buchhandlung Paul Budy Berlin NW Karl Str. 11. Some issues with stamp remnants (for being sent in the mail), one leaf with an old repair; otherwise, in very good condition. Cat. BM(NH) Serial Titles, p. 1099.
