Berlin, Karl Kerkhof, 1935. Large 4to (29.7 x 21.0 cm). Two pp. Offprint.

Rare offprint - signed copy - of Otto Hahn's work on the occurrence of Helium in minerals that do not emit alpha rays. Interestingly, Hahn provided a bridge between pure science, and practical applications, as he pointed out that "Die neuesten Ergebnisse der Kernphysik scheinen die Lösung zu bringen". Otto Hahn (1879-1968) won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1944 for the discovery of nuclear fission. He is regarded as one of the most significant chemists of all time and especially as "the father of nuclear chemistry" (Wikipedia). "His long and distinguished career extended through the discovery of nuclear fission to the study of fission fragments and to the rebirth of German science following World War II" (DSB). Published in the Nachrichtenblatt der Deutschen Wissenschaft und Technik, Volume 11(33). Hahn's short, signed handwritten dedication in the top margin, next to a stamp of the Institut für Mineralogie in Münster (Germany). A long ink line in the right margin, apparently made with the same pen, to indicate the mineralogically most important part of (t)his work. Horizontal fold; some marginal fraying and a few short, marginal tears; otherwise a very good copy. DSB volume VI, pp. 14-18.
