Original green buckram with gilt title on the spine (main work); green printed wrappers (Supplement), and plain brown wrappers (proof copy).
The only modern review of the botany - including the descriptions and illustrations of new and poorly known species - of several islands in the tropical eastern Atlantic (Gulf of Nigeria) at various distances from the African mainland. The author, the British botanist Arthur Wallis Exell (1901-1993) discusses phytogeographical consequences. This set includes a proof of the Supplement, with corrections in three different hands, viz. one using a red pencil, a second using a dip pen with blue ink, a third using a thin, black pencil. Together they shed some light on the changes made before publication. Included is a unique, typed index of the new taxa. With BM(NH) library stamp (withdrawn). The two published parts both clean, as new.
