Den Haag, Martinus Nijhoff, [1909-1918]. 22 loose plates (32.5 x 25.0 cm). In new, marbled portfolio.

From the atlas of a very rare work by the Dutch entomologists Marinus Cornelis Piepers (1835-1919), and Pieter Cornelius Tobias Snellen (1834-1911). The work was issued in four parts. Included are the fine plates numbered 1-10, 12-13, 17, and 19-27; all printed by the renowned firm of P. W. M. Trap in Leiden. The complete work should comprise four volumes with 480 pp. The four plates not present (11, 14-16, and 18) were all published in the third (1913) part. The lithographed plates are very well printed and many butterflies are depicted with their caterpillars, pupae, and/or eggs. Nissen ZBI, 3180.
