Genève, Société de Physique et d'Histoire naturelle de Genève, 1868-1870. Three parts in three. Large 4to (29.6 x 22.7 cm). 685 pp. [272; 225; 188]; 45 chromolithographed and partly hand-coloured plates [16; 17-31; 14]. Original uniform printed wrappers.

A detailed and well-illustrated work on Mediterranean annelid worms, in particular Chaetopoda (i.e., polychaetes and oligochaetes), written by the Swiss zoologist and anatomist René Édouard Claparède (1832-1871). Many species are described as new and beautifully illustrated. Published in Volume 19(I), and 20(I-II) of the society's Mémoires, with all the smaller, unrelated contributions from these volumes either removed or not bound in. Plate numbering in the main parts is consecutive, page numbering is not. Spines split, front cover detached, but otherwise very good, clean. Rare, especial when complete, such as this set.
