The magnum opus of the British entomologist and army major, Frederick John Sidney Parry (1810-1885). This monograph deals entirely with the spectacular group of stag beetles. It includes the illustration and description of several new species. Published in the Society's Transactions, being the complete Third Series, Volume II, Part the First. Six years later, the author published a revised edition with, however, only three plates. Wrappers and spine cover worn, with the rear wrapper detached. Vague stamp on front wrapper, most plain plates rather foxed, but the last two, and all the coloured plates, clean. Rare. Cat. BM(NH) p. 1525; Horn-Schenkling II(3) p. 241.
