Watelet, [J. F.] A.
Description des plantes fossiles du Bassin de Paris.
Paris, J. B. Baillière, 1866. Two volumes (text and atlas) in two. 4to (29.8 x 23.4 cm). 264 pp.; 30 pp. and 60 lithographed plates. Uniform contemporary quarter calf over printed boards. Spines with gilt titles. Speckled edges.
Important contribution to the Tertiary flora of the Paris Basin by the French botanist Jean-Francois Adolphe Watelet (1811-1879). Most species described and figured here were not identified and named before, some were described earlier by Brongniart. Board edges a bit rubbed, one old stain on one board, some light foxing in the margins of the plates and some, mostly minor, scattered foxing in the text. Otherwise a very good copy with broad margins of a book that is usually much worse affected by foxing. Rare with the original printed boards present. Stafleu and Cowan, 16797.
