Harris, W. H.
Louisiana products, resources and attractions, with a sketch of the parishes. A hand book of reliable information concerning the State.
New Orleans, LA, W. M. Harris [for the State], 1881. 8vo (23.4 x 14.9 cm). 248 pp., one large, folded coloured map, one lithographed frontispiece portrait. Original pictorial wrappers. In protective transparent cover.
Includes detailed data, often in the form of tables, on the topography, meteorology, demography, agriculture, commerce, manufacturing, railroad systems and shipping lines of the state of Louisiana, with accounts of the parishes. It is interesting to note that in the 1880 census, the "coloured" population outnumbered the "white" population. The frontispiece portrait shows the late governor of Louisiana, Louis Wiltz, with a facsimile of his handwriting. Printed at the Times-Democrat Print, and "Sent free on receipt of 9 cents postage". Fore edge slightly spotted, otherwise an excellent, clean, spotless copy. Very rare in this superb state.
