Well-preserved chromolithographed plate of lemurs, with original hand-colouring. Made for Baron Rothschild's Novitates Zoologicae and published by his Zoological Museum. These fine plates are by the renowned natural history artist Joseph Smit (1836-1929). Like his compatriot, John Gerrard Keulemans, he was of Dutch descent but became a successful natural history artist after moving to London. This print in excellent condition, a bit age-toned. No creases, dents or tears present. Nissen IVB, 683.
