Giesbrecht, W.
Fauna und Flora des Golfes von Neapel und der angrenzenden Meeres-Abschnitte herausgegeben von de zoologischen Station zu Neapel. 33. Monographie: Stomatopoden. Erster Theil. [All published].
Berlin, R. Friedländer, 1910. 4to (33.5 x 27.1 cm). Title pages, vii, 239 pp.; 12 text engravings, 11 fine, large, folded lithographed plates (of which the first in chromolithography), with explanatory text leaves. Original printed wrappers.
Important monograph on the stomatopod crustaceans, or mantis shrimps (genus Squilla, and others) in the Mediterranean Sea. The plates are morphological, anatomical, histological and cell-biological. Author is the German zoologist and crustacean specialist Wilhelm Giesbrecht (1854-1913), who wrote also much on copepods. The title implies that more parts were projected, but this is all that was published, most probably because of Giesbrecht's early death. Uncut. Wrappers a bit soiled, otherwise a fine, clean copy. Very rare, especially in such a good state. Nissen ZBI, 1269.
