Milano, Bernardoni, 1847. 8vo (21.5 x 14.2 cm). 19 pp.; one lithographed plate. Contemporary (?original) blind wrappers.

A rare work, principally dealing with Italian lizards, written by the Italian medical doctor, anatomist, and herpetologist Bartolomeo Panizza (1785-1867), professor at the University of Pavia, and directed to the versatile Italian zoologist Stefano Delle Chiaje (1794-1860). Offprint (or, rather, preprint), with different pagination, from the seldom-seen scientific periodical, Giornale dell' I. R. Instituto Lombardo di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, Volume 15 (dated 1846, but published in 1848). Provenance: in the top margin of the front wrapper a stamp of the botanist and herpetologist Richard Dane Worthington (b. 1941). Also, this copy, although without his inscription or stamp, from the library of the renowned Swedish herpetologist Richard Wahlgrén (1946-2019), who had a keen eye for herpetological rarities. A wide-margined copy. Some light soiling to lower margin, otherwise very good. Adler 3, pp. 96-97.
