[Trade Catalogue - Patterned Paper]
Papiers de fantaisie. Nouveautés 1967-68.
Paris, Bénard et Cie, [1966]. Oblong folio (12.0 x 19.0 cm). Title page, 70 paper samples. Pictorial soft cover.
A wonderfully diverse catalogue, with paper samples (designs for wallpaper, napkins, luxury wrapping paper, etc.) showing designs as diverse as a jumble of Parisian landmarks (Eifel Tower, Sacre Coeur, 'l Opéra, Arc de Triomphe, etc.), bird’s-eye views of Paris (copied from the famous 18th-century Turgot atlas), and early-17th-century ships at sea, to psychedelic patterns, flowers, and tartans. The firm, Bénard, produced "Gaufres, Indiennes, Micaces, Brocarts, Ors, en Rames ou en Bobine" [waffle fabrics, Indian prints, mica fabrics, brocades, gold fabrics, in rolls or spools]. Individual samples are printed in colour, monochrome, or gilt. It is interesting to see the effect of different colours on the same graphic design. The samples are individually numbered (stamps on versos; numbers in a rather random order). A few stamps offsetting to the opposite leaf; otherwise, very good, unmarked copy.
